Course overview

Our Property Management Registration Course is entry level to get you started in real estate as a property manager. Our course will arm you with the qualification you need to register with Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DMIRS) so you can start working in a real estate agency in Western Australia (Refer to DMIRS website for full registration requirements). 

You can choose to study onsite at our training centre in Subiaco or by distance learning

Important notice

This course has gone through a significant redevelopment. Commencing March 2018 the structure of the course will change to require that all students complete a unit of study as a pre-requisite before continuing on to the remainder of the course. 

This restructure will ensure that you have a sound overall understanding of what is required to work as a real estate practitioner in WA and will help you find out whether you think real estate is the right career choice for you.

Pre-requisite unit
The unit CPPDSM4080A Work in the real estate industry has been created as an online unit with e-learning resources and assessment. On enrolment you will be provided with login details to access the student portal where you will find the e-learning unit and the assessment. You will receive results and feedback on your assessment immediately. You will be given 3 attempts to complete this unit satisfactorily. If your third attempt is not satisfactory, you will be contacted by our Student Support service to discuss options to help you with your study.

Classroom students
On enrolment into a classroom course, you will be given access to the pre-requisite unit resources and assessment. You must complete this unit and be deemed satisfactory before attending your first day of training. Please ensure that you allow sufficient time to complete the unit before that date. At the start of the course you will be provided with a print copy of the full student resources and during the course you will also be given access to the remaining online resources and assessments.

Anyone who wants to start a career in residential or commercial real estate property management. The course is focused on residential property management and those who would like to eventually transition into commercial, industrial or retail property management will have to undertake further training.

In order to complete the course, you will need a computer and Internet service to get access to the course resources and assessments which are available on the REIWA student e-learning portal. 

These nationally recognised units of competency are covered in the course and comprise a partial completion of CPP40307 Certificate IV in Property Services (Real Estate) CPP40307:
  • CPPDSM4080A Work in the real estate industry
  • CPPDSM4007A Identify legal and ethical requirements of property management to complete agency work
  • CPPDSM4011A List property for lease
  • CPPDSM4013A Market property for lease
  • CPPDSM4010A Lease property
  • CPPDSM4016A Monitor and manage lease or tenancy agreement.

To register for this course you must:
  • be over the age of 18
  • be computer literate
  • have numeracy skills
  • have a high standard of verbal and written English (you will have to understand and complete legal contracts and other documentation).
You may be required to undertake a language, literacy and numeracy assessment prior to acceptance into the course.


Five consecutive days in the classroom*
8.30am to 4.30pm | Monday to Friday 
*You will have up to four months to submit your assessment

Distance Learning

You will have up to four months to work through the courseware and submit your assessment.


Whether you select to attend the classroom or study via distance learning, you will have four months from the enrolment date to undertake study, research and complete your assessments.   

Typically this will take you approximately 158 hours to complete, so you need to allow around 9 hours per week to complete your studies and assessment. Every student learns at a different pace, so you may be able to complete in less time, or you may need to spend extra time to work through the resources and submit your assessments.


You can study onsite at our training centre in Subiaco with others in your course group, over a five day period, and with a further four months to complete your studies and submit your assessment.

Distance Learning

If your learning style isn't suited to a classroom or doesn't fit your schedule, the distance learning option is for you. You will be provided with online access to the training and assessment resources and have four months to complete your studies and submit your assessment. Our Student Support Team will be on hand to help you.

It may be that you already have knowledge and skills in some of the units covered in this course. Recognition of prior learning is a form of assessment where you can provide evidence of current knowledge and skills. Our skilled team will help you identify whether you can apply for RPL and the types of evidence you have to supply.

Credit transfer comes into effect when a Statement of Attainment or Qualification that you already hold has the same national codes as those that form part or all of the training and assessment program in which you are planning to enrol. By applying for credit transfer, you do not need to undertake training in those units again. For example, if you hold the unit CPPDSM4080A Work in the real estate industry, you would not have to undertake training or be assessed against this unit again.

What is credit transfer?

From 1 January 2015 all students completing accredited training must have a Unique Student Identifier (USI). You must provide this to us within two weeks of enrolment.

How do I get a USI?

We run this course in our modern training centre with access to a full student support team as well as trainers and assessors. For those who prefer to study by distance learning, the team is on hand at the end of the phone or by email to help support you through your training.

You will be given access to an online student resource portal, with examples of completed forms, documents and links to other online resources that will help you in your studies. 

We run regular webinar sessions to help you make contact with other students and with trainers to focus on specific aspects of the training course, such as document completion and interpretation of the legislation.

What help and support will I get while training?

REIWA guarantees that once you have commenced study with us, should we be unable to complete the supply of training under this contract, we will assist you to source a training place with another approved provider.

If you withdraw from a course prior to commencement you may be eligible for a partial refund. Transfers and withdrawals/refunds are not available once a course has commenced. Please read the refund information before enrolling in this course.


On completion of the training you will undertake assessment tasks that will allow you to demonstrate that you have understood and able to apply your knowledge and skills to real estate transactions. Assessment will consist of questions, case studies, document completion and other practical tasks.

You will have four months from enrolment to complete your studies and submit your assessment. You will be provided with feedback from an assessor and advised whether you have been deemed competent or not yet competent, which means you will need to continue your studies and resubmit your assessment.

You will be advised of your assessment result as soon as possible after submission but please allow up to 20 working days to hear your result, as this timeframe is dependent on the complexity and quantity of submissions.

How does assessment work?

Once you have been deemed competent, you will be given a Statement of Attainment showing the 6 units of competency achieved. We will advise the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DMIRS) that you have achieved this award at the same time as issue of the Statement.

You will have up to one year from the date on the Statement to apply for registration and we recommend that you allow adequate time to both apply and receive a response from DMIRS.
